Bible Study

Sunday School

Overview: JPBC offers Bible Study of all ages during the Sunday School hour, from 9:30-10:30 am every Sunday morning.

Note: If you do not come to Sunday School regularly, there are greeters at each entrance who can direct you to an appropriate class. Just ask them where to go.

What is the JPBC philosophy of Sunday School for children and youth?

We believe that the primary responsibility for the evangelism and discipleship of children who come from Christian homes rests with their parents. Our Sunday School is not meant to replace but to supplement the work of Christian parents in the home.

We carefully select mature teachers to serve in our Sunday School classes.

What curriculum do you use for children and youth?

We have written our own Bible-based curriculum. You can read an overview of the material. Children who attend our Sunday School over the course of four years will be exposed to the entire canon of Scripture. We also stress Scripture memorization and catechism.

All children and youth study the same lessons each week, taught on an age appropriate level. Parents can receive copies of the Sunday School lessons and reinforce learning throughout the week.

Classes are intentionally divided into wide age groups, often including siblings in learning groups together, as follows:

We also welcome children with special needs and will work with parents to help their children participate in our Sunday School ministry.

What about Sunday School for Adults?

We offer several ongoing classes for Senior Adults that use the LifeWay curriculum.

We also offer a special class for the Deaf (“Talking Hands”).

In addition to these continuing classes, we offer three special “track” classes that meet for 13 weeks each:

  1. Track One: Bible. This class does a verse by verse study of one book or the Bible or one large passage of Scripture. Recent Studies: Hebrews, John, Philippians

    Current Study (Sep-Nov 2009): 1 & 2 Kings

  2. Track Two: Doctrine. This class studies one doctrinal topic.
Recent Studies: Person and Work of Christ, Evangelism and Apologetics

Current Study (Sep-Nov 2009): The Sermon on the Mount

  3. Track Three: Christian Life. This class examines a practical topic related to living the Christian life or the exercise of Christian ministry.
Recent Studies: Spiritual Disciplines Within the Church, The Pursuit of Holiness

Current Study (Sep-Nov 2009): One True God by Paul Washer

The track topics change each quarter. The quarters run as follows:

  2. Who is the Father? The Doctrine of God.
  3. Who is Jesus? The Doctrine of Jesus Christ.
  4. Who is the Holy Spirit? The Doctine of the Holy Spirit.
